Terra a Cielo: from the earth to the sky. This is how houses are described that span several floors and bring you closer to the sky with each level! The historic 5½-room house distributes its 160 m² living space over a total of 4 floors. Parts of the house date back to the 16th century. The wonderfully preserved ceiling frescoes and original cotto floors in many rooms could tell stories of a turbulent past. According to oral tradition, one of the cellar rooms was even used as a local prison in earlier times. The surrounding narrow alleys and typical old houses of Nasca's town center also reflect the flair that is so often associated with Italian lifestyle. You can enter the house through a side entrance or through the partially covered enclosed courtyard. From here, you reach an external bedroom with an en suite bathroom and the second entrance to the house via eight steps.
A staircase reminiscent of Art Nouveau connects the various floors with their respective rooms and accesses to the different outdoor areas. As you ascend step by step, a heavenly panoramic view over the rooftops of Nasca, the lake, the Castelli di Cannero, and the mountains unfolds from the roof terraces. But the earth also has much to discover: the lake with its shores, surrounding mountains, and small villages invites you to look around attentively and explore the local customs and specialties with curiosity. Those who want something special on vacation can book a tour with the landlord in one of his vintage cars and be chauffeured comfortably through the area. It quickly becomes clear what the French writer Stendhal meant when he wrote to a friend: "If one has a sensitive heart and a shirt, one should sell the shirt to see the surroundings of Lake Maggiore." You can park your own vehicle either in the partially covered enclosed courtyard (only suitable for smaller vehicles, motorcycles, and e-bikes) or in the free public parking spaces located about 200 m away. Castelveccana (approx. 1,800 inhabitants) owes its name to the two districts "Castello Valtravaglia" and "Veccana", which were administratively merged in 1928. According to archaeological findings, the first settlers in the 9th century B.C. were of Celtic origin. Later, the Romans took possession of the area. The name and history of the place are inseparably linked to the fortress "Rocca di Caldé," which was razed to the ground by the Swiss in 1513. High above the community, the striking limestone rock with its ruins and lighthouse rises, which from a distance resembles the Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro and is therefore affectionately referred to as "Sugarloaf" by the locals.
At the foot of the rock lies the picturesque fishing village of Caldé with its old romantic harbor, which, due to its Mediterranean flair, is also referred to as the "Portofino of Lake Maggiore." The area, favored by the mild climate, became increasingly a point of attraction for artists from all over the world from the 19th century onwards. Writers such as Stendhal, Manzoni, Flaubert, and even Hemingway fell in love with this spot of earth and always enjoyed returning. Caldé is known not only for its many international guests but also for the annual jazz concerts and the varied range of sports activities.
