Dishoek owes its name to the fact that the village was located on a sea dike. The name comes from the word "dijkhoek," meaning corner of the dike. This sea dike no longer exists, but after a storm surge, when a lot of sand has been washed away from the beach, its remnants can still be seen. Zoutelande and Domburg are also nearby.
