Numerous high-quality leisure activities and cultural offerings have emerged on the island of Rügen in recent years, including:
The Jasmund World Heritage Centre with its visitor centre by the Königsstuhl cliff formation; the 'Baumwipfelpfad' treetop walkway that's a great experience for families; the restored Granitz hunting lodge and the 'Raging Roland' steam train; the new golf course by Schloss Ranow; the Gerhard Hauptmann House on Hiddensee and the 'White Fleet' of boats that sail from nearby Breege; and, of course, Putgarten with its cafés, programme of cultural events and variety of shops (just a few meters away from Haus Kapsegler).
Holiday destination
Cape Arkona with its lighthouses is one of the sunniest, most beautiful spots on the island of Rügen. It's also where you'll find the thatched KAPSEGLER holiday home in the traffic-calmed artists' village of Putgarten – a location surrounded by fields, swathes of sea buckthorn, the famous chalk coast and various white sandy beaches, e.g. on the northern shore of the Wittow peninsula. Wittow means 'Wind Country' – it's a great place for breathing in the healthy sea air, enjoying the blue and white skies and relaxing at any time of year. Cultural offerings, sports facilities and local gastronomy mean you'll never be bored.
Getting there
By car from Berlin or Hamburg: Travel via Rostock on the A20 until you reach the Stralsund junction, then take the newly upgraded B96 to Bergen auf Rügen, then head towards Altenkirchen and Cape Arkona on the Wittow peninsula.
The Kapsegler holiday home is located in the traffic-calmed village of Putgarten. Our guests are allowed to drive up to the house.
If you're coming by train, take the IC or ICE to Stralsund or Binz auf Rügen. From Bergen, take the taxi or the bus to Putgarten.
Take the ferry from Scandinavia (4 hours) to reach the Mukran ferry port near Sassnitz. When you get there, travel by car, taxi or ride-share to Sagard, then take the bus to Putgarten.

Host informationWe're architects who bought this new building from 2005 back in 2013 to serve as a refuge for both ourselves and our guests. We named this beautiful house KAPSEGLER ('Black Swift', or literally: 'Cape Sailor') for two reasons: On the one hand, the Kapsegler is a well-travelled, sociable denizen of the skies that loves the highlands and the cliffs. On the other hand, we're sailors ourselves and feel connected to the sea.

Ruhige Lage obwohl gute Verkehrsanbindung.
