Through the forest and dune area, you come from Bergen to Schoorl with the highest dune in the Netherlands and a real climbing dune. Educational in combination with a visit to the Staatsforstbehörde visitor center. Also, at the PWN visitor center in Castricum, you can learn everything you need to know about the flora and fauna in and around Egmond. In an interesting and interactive way, you can learn all about our dunes, the dune animals, the water, and much more through the sensational (nature) exhibitions, (children's) activities, play and hut building in the forest, exploration tours, and the starting point for numerous hikes.
From Egmond, the cheese city of Alkmaar is also an excellent tip for a day trip. From April to the beginning of September, every Friday at 10 am, the cheese bell is rung on the Waagplein. It's simply fascinating to see how the cheese carriers carry their cheese on wooden barrows towards the Waaggebouw. Afterward, visit the surprisingly remarkable cheese museum, discover the wonderful shopping streets of the old town, and have a fun day in historic Alkmaar.
