In the south-eastern tip of Saxony, at the border triangle with the Czech Republic and Poland, a varied low mountain range landscape invites you to enjoy carefree relaxation. The Zittau Mountains are a particular gem. Fabulous sandstone cliffs and unspoilt nature are the special attraction of Germany's smallest low mountain range.
And right in the centre of it all is our 200-year-old ‘Uhu-Häus'l’... Winner of the certificate of honour of the Umgebindehauspreis 2008 for exemplary renovation. The house was restored in 1998 in keeping with its listed status. Care was taken to preserve as much of the original building fabric as possible. From beams, doors, floorboards and windows to furniture and fixtures, a large part of the original structure was integrated into the ‘new’ UHU-Häus'l. You will be rewarded with a special place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The small fenced-in plot by the village stream invites you to linger on the bench under the apple tree or on the seating area in front of the side door. Inside, the cosy log parlour with its tiled stove makes for cosy hours. Old furniture and objects, mostly from the old stock of the Uhuhäus'l, have been restored with great attention to detail and integrated into the interior. The house has a ceiling height of 1.90m, in the kitchen area it is another 10cm less. The staircase to the upper floor is somewhat steep and the steps are narrow (original 200-year-old staircase). However, there is a handrail or banister on both sides.

Bertsdorf, located in the scenic foothills of the Zittau Mountains in beautiful Upper Lusatia, was voted ‘Saxony's most beautiful village’ in 2003. This was followed in 2004 by the gold medal in the national competition ‘Our village should become more beautiful’. Bertsdorf is also the winner of the ‘European Village Renewal Award’. The abundance of lovingly restored half-timbered houses, some with imposing door frames, alone make a trip to Bertsdorf worthwhile.

The house is located on the right-hand side and can be reached via a footbridge over the village stream, diagonally opposite on the left is the Bertsdorf school building. Access by car via Wilhelm-Fröhlich-Weg (parking directly in front of the front door on the way to the footbridge)
