Getting there
As soon as you step on the ferry to Ameland, you immediately experience that wonderful holiday feeling! Just the boat trip across the world heritage site of the Wadden Sea to the Wadden island of Ameland is an experience in itself.
The boats to the Wadden island of Ameland leave from the ferry port in Holwerd, Friesland. If you travel by public transport, you travel from the bus station in Dokkum or the train and bus station in Leeuwarden to Holwerd.
The crossing to and from the Wadden island of Ameland is provided by Wagenborg Passenger Services.
With the regular ferry you can reach Ameland from Holwerd in just 50 minutes and vice versa. If you choose to take your dog, bicycle or car on board, that is no problem. Are you traveling without a car and would you like to get to Ameland as quickly as possible? Then choose the express service. You can then enjoy the most beautiful island within 20 minutes!
